EISURU. Gelato with love.

Homemade gelato with a Japanese soul. In Basel since 2013.

One name, three languages.

  • EisIce cream, in German.
  • アイスIce cream, in Japanese.
  • 愛するTo love, in Japanese.
  • EISURUIce cream, made with love.

From Tokyo to Basel.

Tokyo

Takako Matsudaira grows up in Tokyo. Japan later gives her counter matcha, hojicha and kuro-goma.

Italy

Later she moves to Basel, where she can’t find a real gelateria. So she learns the craft in Italy.

Red gelato being spread into waves with a spatula.

Stockholm

Her husband Martin is from Stockholm. Sweden brings pepparkakor and small snacks to the counter.

Basel

In 2013 EISURU opens in the Markthalle. Today you’ll also find us by the Rhine.

From fruit to gelato.

It all happens in our workshop at Markthalle Basel.

  1. 1

    Fruit from the market.

We buy what’s ripe right now: melons, citrus, pears.

  2. 2

    Prepared by hand.

Fresh fruit, halved and seeded by hand.

  3. 3

    Into the machine.

The mix is frozen slowly and churned until creamy.

  4. 4

    Straight to the counter.

Portioned with a spatula, the Italian way.

Silky at −12 °C.

Gault&Millau calls us the best gelateria in Basel. One reason: we serve between −13 and −11 °C. Try it yourself.

Only what belongs in it.

Water for sorbets, milk for creams, plus sugar, proteins and plant fibres. No additives.

−12 °C

Just right: silky and creamy.

Over 80 flavours.

Takako creates every flavour herself. Twelve are in the counter every day, some almost always, others only rarely. Inspired by Japan, Switzerland, Italy and Sweden.
